We respect your time and want to make the process efficient as well as fun! Each step has some needs from you that will be outlined as we start the process. Our project manager and/or producer will check-in with you weekly to give you an update, and when available share some behind-the-scenes clips of your masterpiece!

PLANNING
(2-3 weeks)

Measure three times and cut once! This adage perfectly describes how important our first steps are in the process as we set-up the all aspects of the project.
1.Agreement to create something amazing
Not the most fun part of the process for sure! We’ll go through some paperwork, understand the process, investment financials, timing plan, and get some signatures to make sure all parties are happy.
2. Plan your Story
It’s important to lock into the perfect day for you where you can be focused and life is quiet. We’ll discuss the days before and how they can be used to help plan or organize your thoughts. We usually arrive at 8am and wrap-up mid afternoon.
3. Plan your CAPTURE day
This is the most important part. In the weeks prior to your CAPTURE day, we’ll walk you through our narrative blueprint and discover the stories you really want to tell! We’ll help this process by doing a series of interviews, getting to know you and getting you comfortable with your StoryTeam.

Capture
(1 day)

Lights, Camera, Action! This is the day! Invite key family members to the event, arrange some snacks and let’s get ready for a day of creative discovery!
1.Arrive and set up for the day
We’ll need approximate 1.5 hours to set up our interview location and do our lighting, audio, script and safety checks. This is time consuming, but has to be done correctly to ensure everything works smooth. We’ll also make sure we return your space to the way it was the moment we arrived.
2. Record and Capture your family story
QUIET ON THE SET! Rolling and ACTION! You’ll work and be guided by our producer to promp the questions you’ve already talked about! All stories and topics will have been planned before hand to minimize any surprises and ensure you’re prepared. There will be a couple takes to make sure both you and our producer are happy with the delivery. Our mantra is Authenticity over Perfection!
3. Scan, photograph and collect supporting footage
We’ll have an onsite team member carefully scan images from your collected photo albums, hanging wall pictures, clippings etc. We’ll also collect any assets such as DVDs, VHS, film reels or slides to digitize in the next step of the process.

EDIT & CREATE
(4-6 weeks)

This is where the heavy lifting begins. This part of the process is where the magic happens as we bring your personal story to life! You’ll be curious about the status and we’ll share updates as they are available each week.
1.Organize footage, trim and align with our Story Plan
Using our Story Capsule Blueprint in addition to your personal master plan, we’ll start trimming and sorting the footage into the Blueprint. We’ll likely have over 5 hours of footage from our 2-3 camera setup. We’ll work toward trimming that down to fit inside our much shorter movie duration estimate.
2. Digitize analog media / place
Your story will be so much better when we can bring vintage or supporting media assets into your story. During this phase we’ll be scanning, digitizing, color correcting (grading) and assembling your story
3. 3 rounds of edits and review
At this point you’ve seen the full cut and we went through some edits to arrive at a final we’re all proud of! Congrats, time to plan the most important part of all!

1.Plan your debut!
Align your debut with a family occasion or milestone to make it that much more special. Consider capturing reactions to the video after the reveal! You can transfer your phone filmed reactions on the same thumbdrive so you a record of everyone’s thoughts! Wow, an even more sentimental keepsake.
2. Set up your online channel
Popcorn! Peanuts! Make the reveal an event with our Story Capsule Goodie Bag filled with snacks and discussion points! What a great opportunity to learn more about your family while sharing lessons, treats and memories.

1. HOW MUCH involvement AND TIME IS NEEDED FROM ME?

2. Why does the process take so long?We wish the process was shorter, but in creating a custom video for you, we need the time to make sure we are accurately representing you and your story. Filming (step 2) is the only part of the process we can accurately control because we’ll be onsite and want to make the most efficient use of your time. Filming is also the shortest part of the process.

3. Can we speed up the process for an upcoming milestone or event?We can make every effort, but the process, especially the editing process is long, with many dependencies. If we are digitizing analog assets (8mm film, 16mm film, slides, scans etc) that can certainly take some additional time. We’ve found the editing also depends on the actor’s delivery of their story. If we need to do a fair amount of splicing or cuts, that can take time.

4. How do I plan and organize my thoughts, stories and media?Happy to walk you through the process, in short we have a tried-n-true process that honors the lessons we want to convey. Our planning process combines direction from you and your family and highlight the best stories that also have the best photo and video assets to bring that story segment to life.

5. Are you insured, what if there is an accident?Great question! Story Capsule Films is a DBA and owned under Silivanch Communications, a larger corporation privately owned and insured. In the extremely rare chance and God forbid scenario there is an accident or an item breaks, we’ll replace or fix the item. Thankfully in our line of work, we’ve never experienced a need to place a claim, but is reassuring that you are covered.
